First of all there are a few things you ought to know about turmeric. Turmeric is a flowering plant in the ginger family (no wonder its so good for you!). It contains a chemical called curcumin, which has been known to reduce swelling. You may have heard that you need pepper for turmeric to work and that's because pepper also has a compound, piperine which enhances the absorption of curcumin. So it might seem weird to spice your latte with a bit of fresh ground pepper but there's good reason, we swear!
