
Roughly translated, Glühwein means “glowing wine”, so naturally, we are here for it. This European tradition is lovely hot and with alcohol or without, but must come with a festive list of herbs and spices like orange and lemon peel, cinnamon, clove, fennel, anise star and cardamom. Toss in a cinnamon stick or plump shot of kirsch liquor, and get ready to glow!
Brewing Instructions
- Add 1 bottle of red wine, preferably a robust and fruity wine (or 6 cups apple cider), to a sauce pan or crock pot.
- Add 1-2 tbls of spices (cheese cloth or muslin bag), 1 lemon and/or orange sliced (optional) and at least 2 tbls of sugar and keep addign until desred sweetness is reached.
- Stir on Medium heat until sugar is dissolved and reduce to low for about 30 min. Do not allow to boil or alcohol will dissipate.
- Strain or remove spices and serve Hot.
